Maui, Hawaii - Haleakala Sunrise

Back in March Justin and I had the opportunity to meet his parents in Maui for a week. One of our many adventures meant getting up REALLY early and travelling to the top of a volcano. Haleakala, House of the Sun, is at an elevation of 9,740 feet.

We watched the sunrise over the crater. This was such an amazing sight...definitely worth the lack of sleep.

As you can see we are bundled up. It was very cold at the top of the crater...by the time the sun came up it was probably 40 degrees. Not your typical Maui weather. The sunrise over Haleakala is sacred to Hawaiians and once the sun makes its debut the Hawaiian chant begins.

Next I will let you know how we got down the mountain. :-)
